You Are Too Special For The Golden Circle
WINTER WEEKEND IN ICELAND!
You Are Too Special for the Golden Circle
January 3 – 7, 2022
Double with Private Bath: $3500
Single with Private Bath: $3600
A right of passage for every tourist to Iceland is the magnificent Golden Circle, which consists of the breathtaking waterfall, Gullfoss, the geysir Strokkur, and Thingvellir where two tectonic plates collide and where Icelanders established the first parliament in 930AD. Lately, Krummi Travel has been very disappointed with the busloads of tourists pulling up to these attractions. You are not cattle at a round up. You are not riff raff. You are as special as the island nation you have come to visit so we have designed a tour as special as you are. “You are Too Special for the Golden Circle” will introduce you to eye popping scenery because that’s how Iceland rolls, but the tour will introduce you to the beating heart of Iceland with some very special Icelanders who will tell you stories, sing you songs, cook you meals, share their experiences, and make you fall in love with Iceland through the words and deeds of true Vikings. There will be farm visits. There will be fireworks. There will be candy. There will be waterfalls and hot springs. Pack your swimsuit, your sense of adventure, your childlike wonder, your flexibility, and your humor. Don’t let your naysayer friends and family (who are crybabies, cranks, and pantywaists) tell you that you are crazy. Welcome to the greatest private party in the world! Welcome to winter in Iceland!

ITINERARY
January 2 / 3: Welcome to Iceland! A Quick Visit to Reykjavik
Fly from Boston to Keflavik, Iceland on Icelandair. Upon arrival collect your bags. You may wish to hit the duty free shop for libations, as alcohol in Iceland is very expensive. ALCOHOL YOU PURCHASE MUST BE CONSUMED IN YOUR ROOMS NOT IN COMMON AREAS OF THE HOTEL. BEHAVE YOURSELVES AND SUPPORT THE LOCALS! Waiting outside will be the smiling face of a poor, unsuspecting, and marvelous Icelandic guide..FRIDRIK….your caregiver while in Iceland. Go easy on him. He is well versed regarding your antics. We’ll be whisked away to a charming restaurant for breakfast. You will then be taken to Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik where you can have the quintessential experience of unwinding like the locals in a beautiful pool. After your dip we’ll head into Reykjavik for a few hours of power shopping, museum hopping, lunching (on your own…maps will be provided)…before boarding the van and making our way north and west. Late afternoon check in at our hotel and a brief period to settle in before a group dinner tops off a long day. After dinner you have the option of hiking around the light pollution free surrounding of the hotel in search of The Northern Lights.
January 4: Marvelous, Mystical Snaefellsnes
Board the van at 10:00 AM for a full day of exploring one of Iceland’s grandest destinations, the Snaefellnes Peninsula! The peninsula is home to the world’s most famous and beautiful glacier, Snaefellsjokull. Jules Verne chose the glory of Snaefellsjokull as the stage for his classic novel, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. Even today the entire peninsula is said to possess mystical powers. There is no doubt that its monumental beauty will consume you too. You will be treated to a tasty soup luncheon (included) and unreal hot chocolate at beautiful Hotel Budir. See the famous Black Church, and marvel over the sea stacks Londrangur and Kirkufjell (Church Mountain) Upon arrival back at the hotel enjoy a delicious dinner followed by story telling and music!
January 5: Akranesviti
Board the van at 10 am for a trip to the town of Akranes where we’ll meet lighthouse keeper Hilmar. Krummi Travel always brings a special Musical guest to Hilmar’s lighthouse and today will be no exception. We’ll also visit local ceramic artist and Krummi Travel favorite, Kolbrun Kjarval in her lovely studio. Return to the hotel for a light lunch and visit from a special guest. This afternoon is (sort of) free time to drink in the beauty of our hotel’s surroundings. Dinner will be at the hotel followed by Krummi Travel’s patented “Icelandic Swearing Class” featuring our friend and musician, Svavar Knutur. Icelandic cuss words will have you rolling on the floor. Gerri makes her own hot chocolate for the group tonight. This is the coziest of cozy evenings. PLUS…You’ll return home with useful Icelandic words to use on family and friends!
January 6: Getting Your Goat!
Board the van at 10:00 AM and spend a full day touring the weat…Husafell to be precise. Along the way you will visit the stunning waterfall, Hraunfossar where crystal clear glacial water is filtered through layer upon layer of lava. Deildartunguhver is the largest geothermal field in Europe! A special visit and a late lunch (included) will be paid to the farm Háafell and its dynamic owner, Johanna Bergmann Thorvaldsdottir who is singlehandedly saving the Icelandic Goat from extinction. We’ll then force Johanna to join us at the stunning Krauma Spa for “Krummi’s Pool Party and Hamburger Bash”, and MUSIC! Once we return to the hotel we can set off some dandy fireworks in the driveway to celebrate the end of the Christmas season.
January 7: Explore Reykjavik and Head for Home
Pack your bags, kids. After breakfast we’ll set off for a few hours of power shopping and museum hopping in Iceland’s quaint capital. A special farewell lunch is planned (included) where you’ll meet one more special friend. At 2:00 P.M. board the van for Keflavik Airport and your flight back to Boston. Arrive in Boston at 6:35PM carrying your hot dogs, raw legs of lamb, cheeses, skyr and other Icelandic delicacies that are all legal because you just visited the tidiest place on earth!
